4 activities to improve your spiritual wellness

In today’s technology-driven, fast-paced world you can easily neglect your inner life. It’s not a secret that spirituality, coming through meditation, yoga or something of your own making, can have lasting, beneficial effects on your physical and mental health, even on your self-esteem too. Most important spiritual wellness provides a sense of purpose and meaning to life. I know, easier said than done, but the best self-care starts by looking within. These simple activities can help you start your spiritual life and regain a positive outlook.


1. Personal reflection

Just as your physical and emotional health change throughout your life, your spiritual life may experience ups and downs too. As you start and continue this spiritual journey take the opportunity to consider what matters to you. For example, ask yourself : What gives my life meaning and purpose? What brings me inner peace and comfort? What would I like to accomplish in this life? Do I demonstrate my values in my thoughts and actions? These answers are different for every person, and may change through your life. Remember to revisit them from time to time, maybe once a year.


2. Meditation

Meditation seems to has many benefits on anger management, reducing stress, helping sustain memory and concentration, improving emotional health and more. Start with this simple exercise:

  • Find a comfortable, seated position in a quiet place with no distractions

  • Set a timer for five minutes

  • Begin by focusing on your breathing. Count to five on your inhale, and five on your exhale. Focus on the feeling of the breath as it enters and exits your body.

If your mind wanders, just bring it back to your breath. Be gentle with yourself. Have in mind that the practice of meditation needs patience.


3. Yoga

Yoga will improve your overall well-being, both physical and mental health. The stable and continued breath helps brain to relax and improves concentration while the dynamic exercises provides a full-body workout. It increases flexibility, promotes better sleep, reduce stress, controls anxiety, improve blood circulation, helps you maintain a firm and toned body.


4. Take care of your body

You have to make sure you take care your physical health before you approach your spiritual wellness.

  • Drink more water. Water flushes out toxins, helps with weight loss, boosts skin’s health, the digestive system depends on it and many more.

  • Exercise. It’s important despite your fully schedule to find some time to exercise. Exercise lower the levels of stress and anxiety, helps you have more energy, the hormones that are released provides you a feeling of joy and keeps you fit.

  • Eat healthy. We all know how important a healthy and balanced diet is. Start enriching your diet with fruits, vegetables, fish, chicken, superfoods, legumes.
